Full Text

Windsor—Mr. Alonzo Goodno, who lives a couple of miles from here near the Mee House, was injured fatally, it is supposed, on Monday near nightfall. He was on his way home from Montpelier, when at the crossing near Mr. H. T. Sabin's his horse became frightened at an approaching hand car. Mr. Goodno had spoken with his boys who were with him before starting, as to whether it was not better to take the train on the Berlin side, as the horse was afraid of the cars, but concluded he would meet no train on this side. He jumped to the ground and began unhitching the tugs, when the horse started just in time to throw him upon the track as the hand car came along. It is possible that the horse as well as the car injured him, and between the two he was so badly hurt that his life is despaired of. He was carried into Mr. Sabin's where it was found that his back was broken just above the hips and he was otherwise injured.
