The Democratic Association was called together on Monday evening last in order to extend an invitation to Col. R. H. Boone and H. Cassedy Esq., who happened to be in this city, to address the citizens on the political questions of the day. The meeting was well attended by gentlemen of both political parties. Col. B. responded to the call made upon him, and in his plain, but forcible and energetic manner, addressed the people. He did not rise prepared to make a speech; but he reviewed the various and contradictory positions assumed by the coon party in different sections of the union, in order to get votes. Col. Boone is a man whose locks the frosts of time are whitening. He spoke from experience and personal observation. He concluded by admonishing his fellow citizens of all parties to stand up to principles and not become the followers of men; he never wished to see the democratic party to descend to the contemptible buffoonery which the country had witnessed proceeding from the federal ranks in 1840.

Mr. Cassedy followed Col. Boone in an eloquent and animated address, during the delivery of which he was frequently interrupted by the applause of the assemblage: Mr. C. rose under evident embarrassment, having yielded to the call made upon him with undissembled reluctance; but we think the manner in which his remarks were received by the meeting must convince him that he will at all times receive a hearty welcome where-ever two or three are gathered together" in the democratic name.

Col. Boone left Jackson for his residence in North Mississippi, yesterday afternoon The gallant old man of the people will not be inactive in the great contest of the present year. No man is more deservedly popular in his region of the state, and his age, experience and talents render him an interesting and effective popular declaimer.
