Their sweethearts, unwilling to remain behind, followed them, determined, come weal or woe, to share their luck. On their journey they reached MeConnelsville, O., and encamped for the night when their mother, who had accompanied them, forbade further progress until the nuptial knot was tied. A messenger was despatched for the "license and squire," and the twain were made doubly one flesh, in the forest, before their camp fire, the stars for sentinels and the trees for witnesses.
