MOTHERS DAY 1961
SUNDAY MAY
Not many of us remember the cast-iron stove or the corn-cob fuel, the long dresses of those days long gone by.
It doesn't take much remembering though for us to think of the wonderful things, the hours of work and sacrifices made by our mothers, in the days of our life.
On this second Sunday in May, when we, along with the rest of the nation, traditionally set aside time to honor our mothers let us not forget how much just being remembered can mean to our mothers.
Often it is our visit, letter, or telephone call to which she looks forward to all week.
When it doesn't arrive, the empty spot in her heart is hard to fill.
It is little enough to give, to one who has given the best part of her life to us.
While the visit home for those of us stationed on Adak is out of the question we can still make that phone call or write that letter.
Let's write today and not tomorrow.
To all the mothers here on Adak - our SALUTE on YOUR DAY. We hope you all have a nice Mother's Day.
