TRENTON, N. J., May 28 (INS)-- James Thorpe, one of the "Trenton Six" on trial for the murder of a 72-year old merchant, was reported in "good" condition today at McKinley Hospital after an operation that may halt trial sessions. It may also result in mistrial.
The 27-year old Negro underwent an operation for a glandular disorder yesterday. He had been suffering from the condition for some time and is presently under the care of two physicians.

murder trial in Mercer County history was to begin today. But Judge Ralph J. Smalley, presiding over the re-trial this week, has announced that there would be no session and said there may not be any sessions for several days because of Thorpe's illness.
The judge also said he might have to rule a mistrial if Thorpe is hospitalized for too long a period.
The New Jersey Supreme Court had overruled a previous death sentence on technical grounds and had ordered a new trial for the six Negro defendants.
