Full Text

A LITTLE SCARED.—The Lynchburg Virginian says it is "afraid" Mr. CLAY "has given in his formal adhesion to the principle of Free Soilism, though he may not approve of a party organization upon that basis." If Mr. Clay can get the nomination of that party for President, his approval of a party organization can soon be had. Can't the Spectator give Mr. Clay a rap or two for turning Freesoiler?

We asked our neighbors of the Spectator to give Mr. CLAY a gentle rasping for his endorsement of the Wilmot Proviso, thinking that as they were opposed to that measure, they would scold him a little, but we reckon they have not the cue yet. We can't see the propriety of abusing Benton and Van Buren and letting Mr. Clay go "scot free."
