Soldiers: Heads Up!: Eyes Front!!! NEGRO SUFFRAGE.
This is the question to be submitted to you on your return from the fields of blood and carnage through which you have so manfully waded in crushing the rebellion.
At the radical convention recently held in Massachusetts, Wendell Phillips, their great orator, let off the following:
"Now comes the crisis, what is the negro! Well, I say, in the face of all prejudice, that amid the gallantry, the patience, the heroism of this war, the Negro bears the palm." [Great applause.]
What do our Iowa Veterans think of this.
Massachusetts abolitionists after buying by large bounties, negroes to fill its quota of soldiers, now seeks to exalt them above the white volunteers, who entered the service from patriotic motives. They are the "Heroes" of the war.
It is about time that these negro worshippers were taught that white men have some rights that fanatics will be obliged to respect, and that our returned soldiers are not to be insulted with impunity.
