Detroit Baptist Church Buys Home Of Daddy Grace

DETROIT (ANP)—Rev. C. L. Franklin, popular pastor of the New Bethel Baptist Church, has purchased the old Oriole theatre, the former Detroit spiritual home of the late Bishop C. M. (Daddy) Grace's Universal Church of Our Prayer, it was announced last week.

The reported sale price was "somewhere around $100,000."

on the building to begin immediately. Architect Nathan Johnson will take charge of the redecorating which will cost an estimated $250,000, according to an informed source.
Sale of the building which was once the property of another colorful man of the cloth, the Rev. James F. (Prophet) Jones and his Church of the Universal Triumph and the Dominion of God, was handled by James Del Rio of Associated Brokers. Atty. Kenneth Hylton represented the Rev. Franklin in the transaction. D.C. law firm of Frank Reeves, represented Bishop Walter McCullough, Daddy Grace's successor.
