BOBBY-SOXER IDOL CONVICTED IN L. A.
LOS ANGELES, Jan. 10.-(AP) -
Robert Mitchum, idol of the bobby-soxers, was convicted today of conspiracy to possess marijuana in a 45-minute trial in superior court.

The end came with suddenness, as the result of a surprising maneuver by cagy Jerry Giesler, Mitchum's attorney.

When the trial opened today Giesler waived a jury trial on the conspiracy count only, and agreed to submit the case solely on the transcript of earlier testimony before the grand jury.

A deputy district attorney read the grand jury testimony, both the prosecution and defense announced they had no witness to call, and Superior Judge C. L. Nye announced his verdict:

Guilty as charged.

Giesler had no explanation for his surprise move, but other attorneys pointed out that conspiracy carries with it the possibility of probation.
