AN ARCHITECT IN TROUBLE.—Wednesday forenoon, Chief of Police Rice arrested Mr. Edwin A. Hall, an architect in the employ of the Conant Thread Company, who is charged with defrauding the company. For about three years he has had general superintendence of workmen engaged in building operations on the premises, and has had the disbursing of money to them, the pay roll being made up in the office. It appears that the pay roll numbered more men than were employed, and hence quite a sum was swindled out of the company. Hall has made conveyance to his employers of some Massachusetts mill property valued at about $15,000. The accused is to be arraigned before Justice Shove this afternoon. The amount of the embezzlement cannot be definitely known until the company's books have been thoroughly examined. It is stated that Hall claims that other persons are connected with him, but declines to give names.
