We believe it was the eccentric Randolph who said that Falsehood would travel a thousand miles while Truth was pulling on his boots. This remark has been brought strikingly to mind by a circumstance which occurred within a few days. Our readers will probably recollect a paragraph which we published in November last, stating, that the Barn of Andrew Gwin, on Shaw's fork, Pendleton, had been destroyed by fire, supposed to have been communicated by a lighted pipe which the owner carried into the barn.—

Well—the aforesaid Andrew Gwin, of Shaw's fork, called at our office, a few days ago, to ask us to say that the pipe part of the story is altogether false. The original statement was made on the authority of a letter from Pendleton.
