NEW JERSEY MOTOR-CYCLE CLUB HAS A GOOD SET OF RACES

The New Jersey Motor-cycle Club was held at Olympic Park yesterday afternoon and the affair proved an auspicious occasion. The entry list was large, the attendance far beyond the average and the events highly interesting. The half-mile track was in splendid condition and high speed was maintained by the chugging machines in every race. The five-mile open event in which there were eight starters, was very exciting. Karl Segelbach, who made his debut in the three-mile novice race, finishing first, came right back with another win over a field of experienced riders. He took the lead for the first two laps and then was gradually overhauled by Percy Drummond. The two fought it out for nearly two miles and then Drummond took the lead. He had the pole, a keen advantage, and seemed to have the race well in hand until entering the stretch for the last lap, when Segelbach came with a rush down the stretch and nipped the leader twenty yards from the tape. The crowd went wild over the clever headwork of the winner in timing his rush at the end so well. The fastest time of the day was made in the match race between William James and George Reichey. It was a ding dong, smashing contest from flag-fall to finish, James winning in the last lap by ten yards. The time of the winner averaged less than 1m. 18s to the mile. The results follow:

Three-mile Novice—Karl Segelbach, first, 5-horsepower, Indian; Boschen, second, 5-horsepower, Indian; H. E. Coryell, third, 5-horsepower, Indian. Time, 4m. 31s.

Five-mile Open—Karl Segelbach, first, 5-horsepower, Indian; Percy Drummond, second, 5-horsepower, Indian; George Reichey, third, 6-horsepower, Yale. Time, 6m. 45s.

Three-mile Handicap—Krieger, first, 4-horsepower, Harley Davidson, 37 seconds handicap; William James, second, 3 1/2-horsepower, Indian, 25 seconds handicap; George Reichey, third, 6-horsepower, Yale, 9 seconds; K. Segelbach, fourth, 5-horsepower, Indian, scratch. Time, 4m. 17s.

Match Race (two miles)—Won by William James, 5-horsepower, Indian; second, George Reichey, 6-horsepower Yale. Time, 2m. 35s.

Match Race (two miles)—Won by P. Kreiger, 4-horsepower, Harley Davidson; second, J. Pflieder, 3-horsepower, Yale. Time, 2m. 50s.
