TRIAL OF THE PACKERS.

Chicago. Dec 18.-Trial of the ten Chicago meat packers under indictment under the criminal provisions of the Sherman anti-trust law, was scheduled to be resumed before Judge Carpenter in the U. S. district court at 10 o'clock today.

Eleven tentative jurors were in the box when the court adjourned on Thursday after the issuance of summons for a new venire of seventy-five men.

The examination of veniremen who wish to present excuses to avoid serving on the jury was expected to be continued this morning This, it is thought, would not require more than half an hour and then the efforts of the lawyers to get a full jury would proceed It is believed that at least nine of the men in the box would be retained after peremptory challenges had been exercised by attorneys for both sides.

Court was to be called in a new room today. Workmen engaged in repairing the room heretofore occupied by Judge Carpenter made it necessary to transfer the hearing to another part of the building.
