Only 60 of the 175 Members of the Legislature Were Present Saturday.
From Saturday's Atlanta News.
In defiance of dignity and the constitution of the state of Georgia the house of representatives this morning went through the farce of passing a number of bills with only sixty members present out of a total roll call of 175.
Hon. Seaborn Wright declared that this disgraceful state of affairs was directly chargeable to the fact that members accept free passes from the railroads and go to their homes when they ought to be at work.
The 115 members who are absent today from their seats will draw $460 of the state's money for services not rendered.
The bills passed today were local measures on which only fifty-five votes were cast as a rule, but after each vote it was announced in loud tones:
"This bill having received the requisite constitutional majority is passed," and the vote was entered on the journal of the house as 90 and 95.
The roll call was dispensed with this morning because out of 175 representatives only 60 were on hand.
