Morris Brown Cindermen Limber Up For '52 Season
BY JOEL W. SMITH

With the collegiate basketball campaign at a close and spring grid drills completed, the Morris Brown College cindermen are now working out daily in preparation for the approaching track season. Some of the candidates for the Purple Wolverine squad have been stretching their legs on the cinders for almost a month, and official drills got underway two weeks ago, with Track Coach J H Penn in charge.

PURPLES TO COMPETE IN 'BAMA STATE RELAYS

According to Head Coach Penn, the Purple Wolverines will open their 1952 season by competing in the Alabama State College Relays, April 19, at Montgomery, Ala. Plans are underway, however, to arrange one or two dual warm-up meets before that date. The Morris Brown spikesters will also compete in the City Triangle Meet, April 26; Tuskegee Institute Relays Carnival, May 3; and SIAC Track and Field Championships, May 9 and 10.

SPRINKLING OF VETS STRIVE FOR BERTHS

Among the key men missing from last year's squad will be Wallace Bly, all-around field star, and the veteran performers striving for berths on the squad are Frank Donaldson, (440-880) of Jacksonville, Fla.; Carl Peal, (440 specialist) of Springfield, Ohio; Dewey Saunders. (miler) Donald Parham, (shot put) of Pittsburgh, Pa.; Norman Anderson, (hurler) of Clairton, Pa.; and Leroy Roberts (880). The crop of talented newcomers which is expected to give the wearers of the Purple and Black more squad balance includes: Raymond Moore, all-around field star, from Nutley High School, Nutley, N. J.; Henry Mosley, Sprinter of Howard High School, Chattanooga, Tenn.; Brandon Southern, Jr., sprinter, of Washington High-School Dublin, Ga.; and William Gray, javelin thrower of Wayne High School, Jesup, Ga. Also impressive in the daily work outs and expected to land berths on the squad are John Scott, Willie Grayson, Clarence Morgan, Belton, Mathis and Ernest Green.
