There is still a great Drought in this Kingdom, especially in the Southern Provinces; and as there is Reason to fear it will bring a Famine, the Government has already given Directions for buying up Corn in England, and other Northern Countries.
The Drought is not indeed so great in the Neighbourhood of this Metropolis; we have even had Rain now and then, but with such cold Winds that we seem to be in the Midst of Winter.
As False Reports are spread in Foreign Parts, about the Disposition of the King's Troops in Andalusia and the Neighbourhood of Gibraltar, it is proper to observe, that the Troops cantoned near the Fortress occupy no other Posts than such as have been judged necessary to prevent Smuggling ; and as for the Dispositions of the Troops in Andalusia, they are made with no other View than to change. the Garrisons. There is nothing new in this; the same Thing has been done these ten Years successively. because it has appeared that the Garrison of Gibraltar frequently carry on a clandestine Traffic with the King's Subjects, in Prejudice of his Majesty's Revenue.

Event Details
Ongoing great drought in the Kingdom of Spain, particularly Southern Provinces, prompting fears of famine and government orders to buy corn in England and other northern countries. Near Madrid, drought is less severe with occasional rain accompanied by cold winds resembling winter. False foreign reports on King's troops in Andalusia and near Gibraltar clarified: troops near fortress positioned only to prevent smuggling; Andalusian dispositions solely for routine garrison changes, a practice for the past ten years due to Gibraltar garrison's clandestine trade harming royal revenue.
