The Cow the Farmer Wants.
Prof. Shaw challenges anyone to contradict his claim that for the general farmer (not the exclusive dairyman) the dual-purpose cow is more profitable than the cow of the pure dairy type. He says he can give instances where the cream from herds of dual purpose (beef and milk) cows has averaged $33 and the calves sold for from $20 to $25 each, and he asserts that a return thus obtained, amounting to from $53 to $58 per cow in a year is more than an average cow will give.—Weekly Witness.
