Full Text

The Mexican question is far from being settled, and, judging from reports from Washington, the danger of war is not yet averted. The dispatches state that even prominent members of the cabinet favor war, and to bring matters to a crisis, General Ord has been instructed to seize a favorable opportunity to cross the border and make an attack on the Mexican troops. It is easy to see through the matter, that this movement is urged by certain railroad interests and contractors who wish to prey upon the treasury. The plum alleged by the war party to be secured as compensation for the outlay is the annexation of the Northern States of Mexico. The strength of the war party in the cabinet is not known, but enough has been divulged to show there is danger ahead, and that the talk about war is not idle; hence the necessity of nipping the war feeling in the bud.
