Politics and Politicians.
Here is the plan presented by
Mr
George Briggerstaff, Democratic chairman
of Rutherford county, for re-electing the
Democratic Senator, who is to succeed
Senator Pritchard:
"After the election, say on the Saturday
preceding the first Monday in December, let conventions be held in every
precinct in every county in the State for
the purpose of selecting delegates to a
county convention to be held at the county-seat of every county in the State on
the first Monday of December. Let the
county convention instruct its members
of the Legislature for whom to vote as
the candidate for the Senatorship. Every
precinct would be entitled to cast as
many votes in the December convention
as it would be entitled to cast in a
convention for nominating county officers
and the candidate receiving a majority
of such votes cast shall be the candidate for whom the members of the Legislature from such county, shall be instructed to vote."
The Salisbury Sun has this item:
"B. F. Long, Esq., of Statesville, is in
the city today on professional business.
Mr. Long is a candidate for the nomination for judge in this district and it is
freely predicted that he will be the winner. He is one of the best equipped
lawyers in North Carolina and would
grace the bench."
Emery E. Raper, of Davidson, will be
a candidate for judge in his district, and
the Lexington Dispatch says the prospects are that he will be nominated; that
those who have been most active in prevailing upon Mr. Raper to become a candidate say that they have looked over the
ground and find that he can win and will
win.
The Newbern Journal says editorially
that Charles R. Thomas, the present representative in Congress of the Third
Congressional district, will without doubt
be renominated for this same office at
the next Democratic convention.
