CHICAGO, Jan. 24.—Forty thousand dollars damages was awarded to-day in the case of Herbert B. Gehr against the Mexican Central Railway Company. Gehr went to Mexico in 1893 and the next year obtained a position in the office of the company. He had been there two years when the robbery occurred which caused him to be locked up until he was released on demand from Washington. The attorneys for the defendant moved for a new trial and the case will be taken to the highest court.
