St. Paul To Honor Dr. Billings As "Father Of The Year" Today

Dr. R. A. Billings, prominent Atlanta physician and surgeon, will be honored as "Father of The Year" at special Father's Day services today, 11 A. M., at St. Paul AME Church, McDaniel and Hightower Streets, S. W. Rev. H. A. Smith, assistant pastor, will be in charge.

Guest speaker will be John Wesley Dobbs, outstanding fraternal and civic leader and Grand Master of the Prince Hall Masons, Jurisdiction of Georgia.

Dr. Billings will receive the "Father of the Year" plaque, presented annually by the Music and Dramatic Club of St. Paul to the church's "Father of the Year." The presentation will be made by Standard Rose Malon of Quitman, Ga., Margaret Tweed, Columbus, Ga.; Messrs Nelson Archer, Charles Greenlea.

There were gifts and flowers sent by Messrs and Mesdames John Hill, Lon Wheeler, Jesse Hampton, Theodore Walker, Luther Frazier, Rogers Pope, Mrs. M. B. Moates, Mr and Mrs. W. P. Bush.

DR. R. A. BILLINGS

A native Georgian. Dr. Billings is a graduate of Morris Brown College and the Howard University School of Medicine. He has been a practicing physician and surgeon in Metropolitan Atlanta for more than 20 years.

A faithful and loyal member of St. Paul for more than 20 years, Dr. Billings is a member of the Steward Board, founder and sponsor of the St. Cecelia Children's Choir, organized 15 years ago; and has served as president of the Optimist Club since its organization 14 years ago.

WELL-KNOWN AME LAYMAN

A top-ranking delegate to the General Conference of the AME Church from the Sixth Episcopal District since 1940. Dr. Billings is recognized as one of the foremost lay leaders in African Methodism.

A member of the faculty at Morris Brown for 22 years, he has served as treasurer of his Alma Mater for the past 10 years and was recently named treasurer of the Sixth Episcopal District, thus becoming the first layman to hold this position.

A member of the Board of Directors of Citizens Trust Company, Dr. Billings is a past president of the Atlanta Medical Association and Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity. He is also a 33rd-degree Mason and a member of the Elks and Knights of Pythias.

He and his wife, the former Miss Anitra Celestine Taylor, are parents of three children: June Celeste, Ann Bertrich and Richard Albert Jr.
