YOUNG MEN'S WHIG MEETING.

On Saturday last, the 14th inst., we are happy to state, that the Whig Young Men of Yazoo county assembled together, in a respectable number, at the Washington Hotel in this city, according to previous notice. Numerous resolutions were offered and passed all of which, with the entire proceedings of the meeting, we are happy in laying before the public in another column of our to-day's paper.

A most laudable and cheering spirit of energy and consolidated action was evinced by the meeting. Whatever abstract considerations may be urged by some against such a spirit, it must be evident to every mind, that this constitutes, at present, the only mode of self-defence against loco-focois, and the most effectual means of ensuring the success of the whig cause. The example, then, which has been thus set, we earnestly hope and expect to see followed by all whigs, with the utmost quickness and strength.

In reference to the election of members of our State Legislature. we trust that it is now quite superfluous in us to remind the whigs, that the elevation of the Hon. S. S. PRENTISS to the United States Senate, is the great point to be gained. Mr. Walker cannot be defeated, unless the Whigs vote, each and every man of them, only for those who will certainly support Mr. Prentiss. Our only proper course, then, is to support, exclusively, the Whig NOMINATED TICKET of Yazoo county. "Divide - and conquer," is the great maxim of loco-foco policy - and too much blame and want of patriotism cannot be attributed to the whigs, if when, as now, they have a very large majority in Yazoo county, they fail to act in entire union, and thus permit themselves, with open eyes, to be defeated.
