Shivering Tribal Chief
Gets Electric Blanket

ROCK HILL, S.C. (AP) --
It was Boy Scouts to the rescue of an Indian chief -- with an electric blanket.

This they gave to Chief Samuel Thunderbird Blue, 86-year-old patriarch of the York County tribe of the Catawba Indians.

The ailing chief, wrapped in four quilts and crouched close to a brisk wood fire at his home, shivered in the bitter winter weather.

The Boy Scouts conducted a blanket-for-the-Chief drive.

Dressed in his tribal headdress the chief accepted the gift, a sky-blue electric blanket which he draped over his prized ceremonial robe containing pieces of buffalo hide more than 100 years old.

A Rock Hill civic club presented the chief with a second electric blanket for his 77-year-old squaw.
