Full Text

PORTSMOUTH, July 29.

On Wednesday last, this town was honoured by a visit from that illustrious gentleman, JOHN HANCOCK, Esq. late Governor of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts. The uniformity of character which this personage has ever exhibited, and the early and patriotic part he took in defence of the rights of this country, when in the very jaws of our implacable enemies; his sacrificing the pleasures of affluence, and the sweets of domestic life, for the public good, claims the attention, and calls for the praise of every generous and true American: and must not only endear him to that state of which he is a member, but to every state in the Union.
