Full Text

Elections in the Military District.

The President and Gen. Grant had a consultation on this subject a few days ago. They agreed that under the reconstruction acts neither the Executive nor the General in Chief has any control or authority over elections or registration in the military districts; but it is understood they have agreed on the propriety of holding elections on the same day, and that it would be advisable to suggest the same to the generals commanding, not in the shape of an order, however, but as an advisory communication, which General Grant was expected to send. It is not known that General Grant has communicated with them upon this subject.
