Western Washington may figure in petroleum history during the present year in the opinion of Gilbert Parmelee of Centralia who writes the Journal that seven drilling operations are in progress. Following are the active operations:
1. Mathews No. 1. rotary. drilling six miles west of Centralia.
2. Salzer Valley No. 2, cable tools. drilling. three miles southeast of Centralia.
3. Mottman-Tracey No. I, cable tools. drilling. four miles east of Olympia.
4. Pelican Oil, rotary, drilling, two miles east of Bellingham.
5. Sound Cities No. 1 and No. 2, rotary. drilling with showings of oil reported, four miles north of Enumclaw.
6. Sims No. 1, changing over to rotary, on the Wynoochee.
7. Nulsnown-Aberdeen No. 1. reported rigging up at Aberdeen.
In addition, he states, Blue Light company has bought a second string of tools and a 56 Star machine in Benton county; First Drilling corporation is preparing to put its well on pump for test and there is more drilling scheduled in Lewis county where gas has been found.
The Johnson discovery well, 240 feet deep, has not been tested. Analysis of the gas shows 864 b.t.u. in the first Keto horizon at 680 and 925 b.t.u. in the second Keto horizon at 1.000 feet.
The Furlong discovery well, drilled by water well drillers, had a flow of gas that burned with a three foot flame for four hours and then turned to salt water. It was 240 feet deep.
