Various reports have at different times been in circulation respecting the conferences that have taken place between the British and American ministers, but nothing that is official has been communicated to the public. It is generally believed that the orders in council will not be given up by the administration of this country until France shall have rescinded her decrees. The repeal of the embargo in America is naturally an object of great anxiety to those who are immediately concerned in that trade; but as the shipping and agricultural interests of this country have been found to be promoted by it, and as there has of late been a good demand for British manufactures for Spain and Portugal and their settlements, the embargo has ceased to be an object of general importance. The premiums of insurance on British and American ships to the United States have been 4 guineas per cent. the greatest part of the summer; some insurances were effected as low as three guineas a few weeks ago, but the stormy weather being set in, the underwriters now ask four and four and a half guineas per cent. American bank stock sells in London for 105l. the share, the 8 per cent 92l; the 6 per cent 93l; and the 3 per cents 53l. 10s. The present price of dollars is 5s 4d per ounce.
Owing to the accounts brought by the September Packet American produce is again in request.
