Full Text

A Willful Lie.

The Cumberland Civilian of the 24th ult. says: 'The $10,000 per annum President of the Chesapeake and Ohio Canal swears that he will discharge every man engaged on that work who does not vote for John Ritchie.' We pronounce the above a willful, unmitigated, deliberate lie, and the editor knew it was such when he penned it. He never heard Mr. Clarke make use of any such language, nor has any one else. In fact, he is a gentleman who never makes use of any such intemperate language. It is a miserable lie concocted for the purpose of making votes for their nigger candidate for Congress, Jno. E. Smith. If Mr. Lowder-milk's health has not been no better restored by his recent trip to Europe than his veracity appears to be in this case, we advise him to try again or allow 'Tom Pepper to tell his lies for him.—Towson-town Journal of Saturday.
