Southern Literary Messenger, For November.
—T. W. White, Richmond, Va.—This periodical is certainly the most punctual as well as the best and most varied, which the literati of this broad continent send out to the world of letters. It opens with a very able article on the Island of Candia, from the pen of the accomplished American minister at Paris. This paper would alone stamp the character of any periodical in which it might appear, for if it was not above mediocrity Mr. Cushing would not have sent it such an elegant and classical memoir. There are two other capital prose articles; Aram or the Seeker of Oblivion, and the Bachelor Beset, are both deserving of a more lengthened notice than we are able to give to them.
