WOODMEN HONORED
DEPARTED BROTHERS

Indian River Camp No. 53, Woodmen of the World, very fittingly celebrated Decoration Day last Sunday by the unveiling of two monuments in the Fort Pierce cemetery, erected by that order to the memory of their departed brothers, Dr. Clyde Phillips Platts and Lewis Mills Dawson.

Forty members of the order in full uniform assembled at the lodge room, and headed by the Fort Pierce band, marched to the cemetery where the impressive unveiling and dedication services of the order were witnessed by a large crowd of friends and relatives of the deceased. A. D. Penney acceptably filled the position as orator of the occasion, and paid fitting tribute to the memory of the deceased, who had filled such important positions in the business, social and political life of our people. At intervals throughout the service the Fort Pierce band, of which Dr. Platts was the first president, furnished appropriate music. At the conclusion of the service, the graves were covered with floral banks of flowers, a beautiful floral wreath being sent by Mrs. R. M. Dawson, of Waterbury, Conn., to be placed on the grave of her son. The monuments unveiled were most beautiful specimens of the sculptor's art, and are a credit to that benevolent order—the Woodmen of the World.
