Full Text
WHEN the people of the southern colonies are adopting systems of frugality and entering into resolutions not to import from Britain any goods but such as are necessary for their clothing and support, until the acts of Parliament imposing duties on goods, to be collected in America, are repealed, and when it is probable that the merchants will enter into resolutions of the like nature, it is to be wished that the factors for British merchants trading to this colony, would also unite in order to consider of one general representation to their principals, resolutions such as have been entered into in the northern colonies, of which it is hoped they are now entering into this colony concerning the non-importation of goods: at the same time to recommend it to them, to unite in an exertion to obtain a repeal of these acts of which we generally and justly complain as unconstitutional.
It is hoped that the factors on the rivers, being the most numerous, will take this measure into consideration through the channel of your papers, appointing, at the most convenient time, a place where the whole may attend; and for that purpose that you will insert this in your next Gazette, which will oblige one of your readers.
