Most of the regulars in the fight racket think that if and when Weill ever succeeds in making these matches the winners will be Charles. Robinson and Saddler.
Here's how they reason: Louis looks like a bloated porpoise that has been washed up on a beach. He no longer has his fast reflexes and Charles would have little trouble in stepping around Joe and keeping him off balance until he got ready to go to work in earnest This they admit, would be a terrible fight for seven or eight rounds, or until Charles got ready to plaster Joe. They think Joe still is a sucker for the same right hand that Max Schmeling hit him with and they believe Joe gets befuddled any time an opponent does something unorthodox.
All this is based. of course, on the supposition that Charles does not get careless and let himself get tagged. Joe still carries dynamite in either fist However. the experts point out that Charles probably takes a punch better than anybody in the ring today
As for Robinson and LaMotta. Ray beat Jake four time in five fights. But all but one were very close. However, Jake think he has just the style needed to beat the welterweight boss
But Jake surely would lose if he should let Robinson make his own fight. Robinson twice licked Kid Gavilan because the Kid foolishly did just what Robinson wanted him to do
Robinson has been a wonderful fighter. He can do everything well and he's smart. He's been around a long.long time and the fight mob thinks the one way to beat him is to make him fight all the time.
Robinson likes to fight in spurts, pacing himself beautifully. The regulars believe his opponents should stay away from him or tie him up when he wants to mix and then carry the attack to him when he wants to rest, It's a neat trick if it works.
Saddler is young and still improving while Pep is over the hill Saddler won the featherweight title by knocking out Pep and then lost it back to Willie by a decision in a great fight
Saddler insisted that the referee cost him the fight by refusing to let him fight inside with Pep He has a point there but as we remembered the fight, Saddler also wanted to put one hand behind Peps neck, hoid him in close and then rip him with the other hand to the body
If the referee should let both boys go their own way. we think Saddler would win. He might win the next time out, no matter how the referee acted because Pep, a grand little ringman. has lost much of the speed that made him.
In any event there would be three great fight and Weill still has a fancy vest for the man who can help him make even one of them

Al Weill seeks help to arrange three title fights: Joe Louis vs. Ezzard Charles (heavyweight), Ray Robinson vs. Jake LaMotta (middleweight), and Sandy Saddler vs. Willie Pep (featherweight), offering a vest as reward. Experts predict victories for Charles, due to Louis's decline and Charles's superior speed and punch resistance; Robinson, based on his record against LaMotta and tactical prowess; and Saddler, as he is improving while Pep is past his prime.
