AT LYNX CREEK
CROSSING
(From Tuesday's Daily.)
Many complaints were heard again yesterday by outgoing and incoming motorists who traverse the crossing of Lynx creek over that stream being swollen and difficult to negotiate.
Two cars were caught in the deep water and washed away, one being badly damaged. Five on both sides of the creek were compelled to wait until the man with a mule team could pull them over, which required over two hours of careful work.
This highway is more frequently traveled than any other into or out of this city, and incidentally at that one point it is the most neglected, although the most important, tapping Verde valley, Jerome, Dewey, Humboldt, Mayer and the big mining fields adjacent to those places.
Said one large taxpayer in Prescott yesterday from that region: "During my 20 years of a residence in Yavapai I have been a taxpayer for 12 years, and I have no knowledge of ever having witnessed the expenditure of even a red cent across Lynx creek at the wagon road crossing, although there have been expenditures made on both sides to care for dry arroyos that will run into the thousands. It is a neglect that is occasioning general and deserved condemnation."
"An arrival from Walker yesterday stated: 'There are no roads from the Four Mile house to Walker. Traffic has ended again and at a time when mining men most needed a highway to take in machinery and bring out ore.'"
Official Party "Stuck"
Among those suffering from the exigencies of high water was an official party consisting of Sheriff Davis, County Attorney Neil Clark, J. C. Furst and L. D. Crossman and F. L. Haworth, who left the county car in the creek Sunday night.
The entire party waded to the city and got Ernest Crutchfield to go out and rescue the machine, which required all the rest of the night to extricate. Crutchfield swears that he will either move his garage to the banks of Lynx creek or build a bridge there at his own expense.
