Fears of Flood.

Pittsburg, Feb. 22.—Weather bureau officials believe the cold wave will break the force of the coming high water in the river, although the bureau sent out a preliminary flood warning last night. The rivers were rising only a foot an hour yesterday evening and a stage of 20 feet is expected by tomorrow night unless the cold spell holds the waters before it gets out of the small tributaries. Heavy ice is running out of the Monongahela river. The ice in the Allegheny and Youghiogheny still held at nine o'clock yesterday evening. River men view with apprehension the situation of these two rivers, where the ice is the heaviest in a generation. Should it come out on the crest of a flood it would spell disaster. Some of the ice in the upper Allegheny now is five feet thick.
