Full Text

On the 6th inst., as we learn from the News, the mayor of Mobile, before adjourning his court, told the officers that he had information that gambling dens had multiplied to an alarming extent; that they must be broken up, and that the police must bring up all found in them; that these dens were used to swindle citizens and soldiers, so that no one was safe from their snares. He is going to see whether these gentry are not hiding from the conscript officer—and they must show other means of livelihood than is apparent at present, or go in the army or leave the city. Good for the mayor.
