MR. WILLIS' MAIL.

He Has a Large Package Containing Much Important Matter.

WASHINGTON, Jan. 14—The mail that left here last night carried several bulky packages addressed to Minister Willis and to be forwarded to him by the steamer Australia, which leaves for Honolulu from San Francisco, next Saturday. Included in the despatches is a communication from the treasury department upon a matter in which Mr. Willis is much interested.

When he left here he was attorney for the city of Louisville in a $40,000 claim before the treasury department. First Comptroller Bowler disallowed $18,000 of this, and Mr. Willis, hearing of it, sent word to hold up the matter until he could return home. The package containing Mr. Bowler's decision, with letters on the subject, was sent him by last night's mail.
