Full Text

A New and Useful Invention.—Dr. A. Miller, from Mount Pleasant, Iowa, who has been spending several weeks in this place and preached a number of times to our Methodist congregations, has obtained a patent within a few days past, for an under draining machine, by which he can cut a hole or ditch from 2 to 3 feet deep under ground, and lay in a permanent board gutter, without digging down from the surface, and it is estimated that two men with a span of horses or one yoke of oxen, will cut the ditch and lay the gutter of from 75 to 100 rods per day, without disturbing the surface of the ground, any more than to make a slight cut with a coulter, which soon closes up, and leaves a 6 to 8 inch gutter, permanently under ground.
