Shameful Conduct--Mob Spirit.
A violent, and as we infer, a preconcerted effort was made by a few evil disposed Whigs to break up a Whig meeting in the Third Ward, on Saturday evening. Mr. Reeves was allowed even one word. Charles Bruce, a strapping young fellow, took hold of him and dragged him from the stand. A narrative youth could not be heard. The citizens asked that he might be heard in defence! Freemen, was that right or just? Was it such conduct as becomes good Whigs? What! to denounce a man, then refuse to hear him—to permit a stranger to utter his malignant, and then declare that he should not reply? Never let it be said that you have been deceived, and your rights trampled on in a conduct so unjust, so unfair, so tyrannical.
Voters of the Third Ward—You see what truth there is in these charges. If they were true, why was any effort made to stop Mr. Reeves? The effort to stop him, was an insult to you, voters. The brag has been made by the opposition, that you could and should be divided. Will you be forced into any course? Never. Stick by your friends. Stand to your principles. Support your ticket, and tell these men that you cannot be treated or governed.
We shall give a full detail of this matter.
