The activities in the second and third grades of the elementary division of the Juneau Public schools are varied and interesting. A circus and a movie are occupying the attentions of the second year boys and girls, while the third graders have joined the "back-to-the-farm" movement.
Reading For Recreation
Miss Velma Bloom's second grade has for its major project a "Circus Activity Frieze." The free hand cut outs of the animals are rectangular or circular in design. Supplementing this project, the pupils are learning the animal songs. Also they are making a library out of orange crates which will form a reading corner where the pupils may spend their spare minutes in browsing through books.
Going Hollywood
Miss Mabel Monson's second graders have made a movie of "This is the house that Jack built." The different colored pictures are placed on a roller, and the children tell the story while the pictures are being shown.
Interested In Farming
The third grade, under the supervision of Miss Donie Taylor, is studying the farming of wheat and other grain products. A display of samples in the several different stages of wheat milling has been arranged.
Pupils Study Baking
A short time ago biscuits were made in the classroom. The children mixed the dough and baked the mixture in accordance with the recipe which was placed on the board.
