President Roosevelt First and Gen. Grant
Second in Line of Age.
The present incumbent of the high
office of president of the United States
is the youngest of the twenty six men
who have filled that position, by four
years. He lacked one month and thir-
teen days at the time of his taking the
oath of office of being 43 years old, hav-
ing been born on the 27th day of Octo-
ber, 1858. The president next to Presi-
dent Roosevelt in point of age was
President U.S. Grant, who was 47
years old at the time of his inaugura-
tion.
It may not be uninteresting to note
that Grant, the next youngest, like
Roosevelt, won fame as a military man,
and like Roosevelt, owed his elevation
to the high position to the fame gath-
ered in war and as a leader of armies
