POET'S CORNER.

For the Spirit of the Age.

Gentle Sleep.

BY EMMA SOPHIA MILLS.

Oh sleep, gentle sleep,
Oh grant me thy spell
To chase sorrows deep,
From my bosom that dwell.

Oh sleep, gentle sleep,
Restore me in dreams,
Those loved friends who weep,
O'er my soul's saddest theme.

There let me smile.
All their bright tears away,
As dew drops dissolve,
At the sunshine of day.

Oh sleep, gentle sleep,
Though distant I roam,
My heart still can keep,
The endearments of home.

Oh, let me know,
Youth's love links again,
Ere one link of woe,
Severs life's golden chain.
