Rip-Van-Winkleism.
The Gold Hill News of the 27th instant, remarks, as Governor Bradley has seen fit, for some strange reason of his own, to ignore the example of the other States of the Union, and persistently refuses to supplement the Thanksgiving Proclamation of the President by the usual gubernatorial one, perhaps the Proclamation given above might do. The one "given above" was a desperately funny emanation from the News department of quaint humor; but as every body but the News was aware that the Governor's proclamation, fully endorsing the President's had been issued and published throughout the State eleven days prior to the appearance of the News suggestion, the point of the intended joke becomes obscured, and as the Governor remarked upon reading the executive document referred to, the most magnanimous conclusion that could be reached was that the entire News outfit had been taking one of its Rip Van Winkle naps, or was just recovering from one of its periodical two weeks' drunks.
