The Apathies of the Hour.
Much of the difficulties that surround us may be attributed to the apathies of the hour, as they may be called. If the white men and all the true men of the South would boldly enter the arena of the political struggles of the day, all would be well. Resolution, activity, exertion, indomitable energy—these are what we need to make an impress upon the policy of the State. We must meet all the issues that spring up with wisdom and moderation, but with an iron will also. The cause of the conservatives of the South is a righteous one, and we must make it speedily triumphant. The brains, intellect and refinement of the country should control its affairs, and these will. Let men not despair. The triumph of our cause is as certain as that the sun shines. And when it ripens to a sumptuous West
With a great sunset, 'twill be crowned and closed.
