Full Text

The Western Frontier And Canada.—The annexed from the Quebec Gazette is analogous to the sentiments we have all along expressed on the subject. If the inhabitants of the American frontier and the British Provinces come to a right conclusion from the late events, the former will adhere to the Union of the States, and the latter to their connexion with the British Empire, with a stronger determination than ever. Mutual bad feeling has got to such height on the frontiers, that if the inhabitants were altogether their own masters, they would soon be involved in "the unprofitable task of trying who can do the other the most harm?" instead of peace and good neighborhood, and a reasonable enjoyment of freedom and security, they would be exposed to violence and plunder, and finally a military despotism. We conceive that it is only the authority of the United States' Government and that of the British Empire, that has saved them from such unfortunate results for the present.
