Full Text

Would the Secessionists Fuse with the Republicans?—In relation to the Oregon Senatorial election, the Statesman of October 8th, has the following: Delusion has tried his hand at a coalition with the Republicans and said he could bring fifteen votes into it if they could bring eleven. Every Republican in the Legislature was thoroughly sounded on the proposition, and some of them were in favor of it. It was urged all the time by him and his friends, in the Legislature and out. Holbrook, who was in the plan with Delusion, never voted to elect Baker and kept other Republicans off from him until the last ballot. We cannot say certainly that fifteen Breckinridge members agreed to elect a Republican with Delusion, but we have unquestionable proof that a part of them did propose it, and Holbrook's refusal to vote for Baker was, likely, owing to his hope of a coalition upon himself and a Lane man.
