Flood in the Des Moines River.—The recent rains caused a rise in the Des Moines River which started the ice and it came booming down against the impregnable ice barrier of the Mississippi. The gorge flooded the water back over the bottom and down through the lowlands back of Alexandria. It is reported that the country is submerged for miles back over the bottom in Missouri, and much damage has been caused, and that the live stock as well as fences have been swept off from several farms by the irresistible violence of the flood.
