N. H. Legislature.

Monday, June 22.

HOUSE.

Afternoon.—The House was called to order at 3 P. M., with a small attendance of members.

On motion of Mr. Allen of Fitzwilliam, members entering during the roll call were also marked present, making a total of attendance, 205.

[Mr. Stevens of Nashua in the chair.]

Resolutions presented.

By Mr. Quimby of Pittsburg—That the committee on Agriculture be instructed to inquire into the expediency of increasing the bounty on bears to ten dollars. Adopted.

By Mr. Allen of Fitzwilliam—That the com. on the Judiciary be instructed to inquire into the expediency of amending chap. 199, C. S., relative to homestead exemption, providing that the widow shall not take both dowry and homestead, but may take either as she shall elect. Adopted.

Bills introduced.

By Mr. Foster of Keene—An act to incorporate the "Keene Aqueduct Company."—Read twice and referred to the com. on Incorporations.

By Mr. Fiske of Keene—An act in addition to section 23, chapter 26 of the C. S.—The act provides that fraudulent returns of votes by moderators shall be punishable with a fine of not less than $5000 and imprisonment for not less than six months. Read twice and referred to the committee on the Judiciary.

Haverhill Bank Charter.

On motion of Mr. Bryant of Concord, the bill extending the time for the acceptance of the charter of the Haverhill Bank, which, after its third reading, was tabled on Friday, was taken from the table and considered.

Mr. Varney of Dover, supposed the parties were acting in good faith. The building of the Concord and Montreal railroad had taken from them a large portion of their valuable funds. The privileges granted them, after a fair hearing last year, should not be taken from them without a good reason.

Mr. Hackett expressed himself satisfied with the answer given to his enquiry. He liked the sound policy manifested in waiting to put things on a sound basis.

The bill was then passed.

Messages from the Senate.

A message was received from the Senate, notifying the House of the concurrence of the Senate in the passage of the following:

An act in amendment of chapter 1828, P. L.
An act for the preservation of deer.
An act to alter the names of certain persons.
An act relative to the Boynton Common School Fund in the town of Mason.

A few minutes after four o'clock, on motion of Mr. Hackett of Portsmouth, the House adjourned.
