HOLLYWOOD (UP)—Actor Lloyd Nolan started running after a freight train in San Bernardino, Cal. A week later he caught it in Hollywood, 65 miles away.

Nolan's sprint was for benefit of movie cameras filming Warner Bros.' "New Orleans Blues." They made the outdoor shots at San Bernardino, then moved back to town and indoors to finish the job.

Warner Bros. always has considerable rolling stock on the lot, but it's not often that you find any of it on a sound stage.

A half-dozen boxcars are on one of the huge stages for "New Orleans Blues." And while they are there, they will be shifted around a bit and the background changed to make some shots across the tracks in "King's Row."

For Nolan's scene the camera was mounted inside a boxcar. Riding the freight with him were Priscilla Lane, Richard Whorf, Jack Carson, Billy Halop, Elia Kazan and Peter Whitney.

They represented a down-on-their-luck hot blues band.

Eating sandwiches and drinking beer, they seemed none too depressed about it.

Director Anatole Litvak called for action, and Nolan ran alongside the train. Aided by Whorf, he pulled himself inside.

He was supposed to be all out of breath, but merely simulating shortness of breath did not seem to work out right.

"We'll fix that for you," said Litvak.
