More than 400 shares of stock have been sold and more than $1,200 collected in cash in an intensive campaign now being carried on to produce a Co-op store in Wausau, Wis., affiliated with the Midland "many co-ops as one" federation. A letter announcing results so far was sent to all store share subscribers this month by the Co-op Store board, and in the next two days 18 people came in to the Cloverbelt Co-op station in Wausau to finish payments on their $15 shares.
It is hoped to complete collection work by April 1 and to be able to get under way before May.
The store project has the combined support of cooperative, credit union and labor organizations in and around Wausau.
A meeting was held recently at the Labor temple at which movies were shown and cooperative principles explained to the women's auxiliary of the Wausau Central Labor union. Folk dancing and games followed, after which lunch was served by a committee of Mrs. Mildred Johnson, Mrs. Elmira Metzdorf, Mrs. Alma Luedtke and Mrs. Viola Bliese.
