IMPORTANT.

His Excellency Governor Hawkins has received a letter from General Thomas Pinckney, dated the 11th inst, containing an extract from a dispatch from the Secretary of War, directing Gen'l. Pinckney to cause every possible preparation to be made to repel an expected attack by the British, on southern coasts. General Pinckney is particularly instructed to forward to the defence of Charleston, Wilmington and Savannah. The Secretary of War informs gen. Pinckney that from information just received from Halifax, it is believed the British have made every preparation for the attack.
